Lubricant Blending and Distribution Facility

Challenge

For more than 40 years, AMSOil has been the industry leader in synthetic lubricants for vehicles and heavy equipment. As consumer preference for synthetic grew, the company required additional production capacity at its Superior, Wisconsin, location. However the existing site was not sufficient to meet the facility requirements. Based on a strong desire to remain in the local community, the company purchased a vacant, 100,000-square-foot former warehouse with the goal of converting it into a lubricant blending and distribution facility.

Solution

Lubricant blending and distribution facilities are subject to specific and detailed regulatory requirements for both the facility itself, and the site on which it is located.  SEH’s team of engineers, architects and scientists provided analysis, design and permitting assistance to support the redevelopment of the site and building to support expanded blending, storage, and packaging operations. Permitting and compliance services assured that the new use of the facility would meet safety and health regulations. The project included design of an addition for unloading lubricants from rail and truck tank cars, as well as an enclosed tank farm to accommodate 30 large-capacity storage tanks.
