The Jackson Hole Airport needed to resurface their entire runway. But they couldn’t shut down operations while the work was done.
The project team reconstructed the runway using carefully phased process so that neither the airport nor the 300,000 passengers that fly into the area each year were not affected. The runway closed down at 10:00 p.m. for work, and opened again at 6:00 a.m. Each night, asphalt on a 6,300-foot lane was removed and then repaved. Finally, runway markings were replaced every night, making the runway ready for the first flight of the day at 6:00 a.m.
