Challenge
The Cedar Grove Transit Station serves as a lynchpin of the METRO Red Line BRT system, connecting local and commuter transit riders directly to the Mall of America Transit Station, Apple Valley Transit Station and local routes. Project challenges included designing a skyway spanning both the northbound lanes and ramp exit on TH 77 while also avoiding major underground utilities.
Solution
The new station design is a significant expansion of the original facility, adding a signature station element in the freeway median and connecting the two components with a skyway. SEH led the design of the station, skyway bridge connection over northbound TH 77 (Cedar Avenue), and redesign of northbound and southbound TH 77 for dedicated bus lanes into and out of the median station.
