Protective Coatings Manager

Wastewater engineering

What does a protective coatings manager do?
I assist with protective coating specifications, submittal review, job site issue resolution, coatings education and construction inspections.

I also help coordinate coating related evaluations, design services, construction administration, National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) inspections and client business development. All of this work can only be accomplished with the help of our NACE inspectors, coating specialists, engineers, project managers, client service managers and admininstrative staff!

How does what you do help SEH clients?
Our group provides guidance, coordination and quality assurance/quality control for our clients to ensure long-term asset protection of facilities, water storage tanks and equipment.

Describe one of the most unique jobs you’ve worked on?
I was contracted to abrasive blast clean, neutralize and recoat an entire ammonium sulfate process facility after the building envelope was removed. The entire project area, including the roof, was enclosed for containment while the facility remained operational throughout the entirety of the two-year project. The scope included complete containment of the abrasive blast cleaning and coating operations, weather protection and plant employee access to the process areas.

How do you stay at the top of industry trends?
I stay involved with the Society for Protective Coatings, NACE, trade organizations, vendors and my industry peers through personal relationships and technology.

Where do you see the field of protective coatings in 5-10 years?
I see protective coatings moving toward more advanced technology with less harmful solvents, more surface tolerant properties and even the use of drones for asset evaluations and inspection.

What led you to join SEH?
The employee culture is something I really value. I admire a company that supports its employees both on the job and at home. I was also really interested in the potential for growth opportunities working at SEH. Lastly, working for a company that offers such a great Employee Stock Ownership Plan was another factor that encouraged me to join SEH.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I enjoy traveling and, so far, have visited 36 of the 50 U.S. states.
